NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2018
Continuing with our volunteer stories here is an account from Lisa:
“A couple of major life events have shaped a path which lead me to volunteering at Makants. I grew up with animals and six years ago adopted a rescued Border Collie. Sadly she had been badly treated in the past leaving her with emotional problems. Caring for her has been stressful at times but I have also found it very rewarding helping her find her confidence again.
Just over a year ago I lost my mum and then I found myself with some spare time wondering how best to use it. I knew I wanted to find something that was calming, rewarding and even better if it involved dogs. One day I came across the Makants page on facebook and decided to get in touch.
I spent time speaking with Siobhan and asked about volunteering to walk the greyhounds. I was a little apprehensive as I didn’t have any experience of greyhounds but I have found them to be fascinating and gentle dogs who, just like my own dog, deserve a chance at a loving forever home.
At Makants they do a wonderful job and the dogs are very lucky to be cared for and given a chance of a new life with loving families. I would urge anyone to donate whatever free time they have to get involved with this charity - volunteering for Makants brings me enormous pleasure and I am sure it will do for you too.”
Thank you Lisa from all at Makants!
