Stunning new boy Jack is our Friday feature this week. Jack, who arrived with us in kennels last month, has settled well and Siobhan reports that he has a lovely sweet nature and is a friendly lad too.
As part of his transition process Jack recently spent the weekend in a home, which was a completely new experience for him. His carers, Lynn and Carl, report that he was calm and naturally inquisitive, well behaved and clean in the house. Jack was respectful when meeting other dogs when out on walks and enjoyed playing with toys in the garden. They also remarked that he is a ‘big softy who loves all the attention!’ (name me a greyhound who isn't!)
While Jack gets on well with other dogs we feel he would be best placed as an only dog as he likes his own space.
If you would like to find out more about Jack featured here please contact either Sue our re-homing co-ordinator on 07794463249 or Siobhan at kennels on 07960561988. Alternatively you can complete our short homing questionnaire on our website: www.makantsgreyhoundrescue.co.uk which can be found under the ‘adopt/foster’ tab. One of our homing team will then get back to you.
We have happy homing news to share today and this time it's puppy SOOSY, the last of the 'Makants Five' to find her forever home.
Soosy will live with Lisa, Michael, Oliver and fellow hound and playmate Louie in the Hindley area. She also has parrots Max and Harry, rabbit Simba and cat Jess for company. We wish the whole family every happiness for the future.
We also send our thanks to foster carers Keelie and Mike and Jo and Paul for their care of Soosy.
This coming Sunday, 20th January, sees the first of our fundraising events of 2019.
Come along and join us at the Pets at Home store, Horwich. We'll have a greyhound or two for you to meet and find out what wonderful pets they make. We will also have a selection of hand made dog coats for sale and a book stall. 11 am to 4 pm.
Sweet girl Polly has been with us in kennels for a couple of months now. This lovely girl was fortunate to spend some time recently in a home with volunteers Joanne and Ian and their two male greyhounds.
During these visits Polly gradually become used to family life and built up her confidence on each successive visit. Once in familiar surroundings she has proved to be a very affectionate and playful girl who loves the company of other hounds, being happy to snuggle up with them on the sofa. (Now back at kennels Siobhan has found Polly’s confidence much improved as a result of these home visits).
As Polly has spent her life around other greyhounds she still needs exposure to other breeds and any prospective adopter would need to work with her on this.
If Polly is given time to overcome her initial shyness in new surroundings we feel she will happily settle in a home. To give her the best start we are looking for a quiet home and for someone with hound experience - a resident greyhound friend would also be on Polly's wish list too. :)
If you would like to find out more about Polly featured here please contact either Sue our re-homing co-ordinator on 07794463249 or Siobhan at kennels on 07960561988. Alternatively you can complete our short homing questionnaire (under the adopt/foster tab) on our website www.makantsgreyhoundrescue.co.uk
At this stage we do not feel Polly would be able to live with a cat.
2018 certainly proved to be an excellent year for fundraising at Makants. Our teams often had to brave extremes of weather and sometimes not ideal situations - but remained professional always with big smiles on their faces, we cannot thank them enough for all their hard work.
The teams attended local dog shows, family fun days, agricultural shows, carnivals and several Xmas events including light switch ons. New venues such as Haigh Woodland Artisan market, Curley's Horwich and Monton Sports club proved to be very successful events too.
Help us continue to maintain the same level of support this year by joining our fundraising team, you will be made very welcome. You can contact us by messaging the page or by e mail to [email protected].
How are your New Year's resolutions going? Remember that one where you thought you'd like to do more to help animals? …. we can help with that one!
We can offer several volunteering opportunities, many at times to suit you. We are always looking for people to join our fundraising and walking teams, as well as our crafters group. Volunteers are the backbone of our rescue and without them Makants simply would not exist.
It easy to get in touch with us, you can do it now, send us an e mail at [email protected]. We're waiting!
New arrival Jake, who came to us last month, has already settled well in kennels. We’ve found him to be a very friendly confident dog, who is easy to care for too.
Jake was lucky to have a weekend sleepover recently with volunteer Trev. This is what Trev says about him: ‘Jake was good and clean around the house, he liked attention and was good on the lead. He was interested in what was going on around him on walks but didn’t react negatively to other dogs that we saw when out near Pennington flash. He was great on the lead - no pulling - and was always keen to go on walks, he kept ambling towards the front door dropping a big hint!’ Trev also described Jake as a 'gentle lad who loves company'.
Trev did say Jake also followed an hilarious rigorous yoga routine after every nap - which anyone with greyhounds will no doubt be familiar with!
If you would like to find out more about Jake featured here please contact either Sue our re-homing co-ordinator on 07794463249 or Siobhan at kennels on 07960561988. Alternatively you can complete our short homing questionnaire on our website www.makantsgreyhoundrescue.co.uk which can be found under the ‘adopt/foster’ tab, a member of our homing team will be in touch.
2019 starts off in great style with news of a homing and this time it's BEAR! This lovely hound has been in foster for several months with Dave and his Mum Pat and, as the saying goes, the rest is history! He joins adopted Makants hounds Jake and Charlie and has already made a good start on his fundraising career. Congratulations to the whole family!
