Continuing with our volunteering stories, thanks to volunteer Sue for her account:
“Every cloud has a silver lining as the saying goes, and this was certainly true in my case almost 4 yrs ago.
A fracture of my arm and wrist left me unable to drive for a couple of months and afterwards for only very short distances. During this time I was sadly unable to participate in my usual volunteering activities due to lack of mobility.
A chance conversation with a work colleague led me to discovering Makants and when I learned they were collecting outside Pets at Home in Leigh I walked down with Sam, one of my 3 greyhounds, to see if they needed any help. I was warmly welcomed by the fundraising team who very kindly offered me and Sam a ride home at the end of the day.
Little by little I became more and more involved in the various activities and was so touched that every small effort on my part was always so greatly appreciated. I have extended by hobby of photography to include taking photos of all the new arrivals at kennels. It’s not always easy and as you will see from my photo I encounter plenty of animals, not always greyhounds, when I’m at kennels. There’s never a dull minute that’s for sure!
To anyone reading this who is maybe thinking of volunteering for Makants, don't be shy please get in touch. There are lots of ways you can get involved - dog walking, fundraising, doing the vet runs, fostering dogs - to name a few. You will be made very welcome, it's good fun and you will get to meet lots of gorgeous greyhounds.
I'm so glad I got involved with this fabulous little charity”.
Over £1,000 has been raised for the Makants Kennel Appeal and there has been lots of progress as you can see from the photos below.
Thank you to everyone who has helped towards the appeal, be it a personal donation, a fundraising event, putting a collection tin in their business or a corporate donation - we really are overwhelmed by everyone's generosity.
As well as donations, there are lots of other ways to support the Makants greys - if you would like to help please get in touch or visit our 'How to help' page.
