I retired three years ago and began searching for something to occupy my spare time - that is when I am not looking after my two lovely grandchildren.
Last year, I attended the Mossley Common dog show with a friend and her dog and Makants Greyhound Rescue had a stall there. Being an animal lover I fell in love with these gorgeous dogs and was amazed at how gentle they were.
Later that year I went to the event at Dam House and they were there again. I believe someone or something was trying to tell me to get involved! I started talking to a volunteer who gave me more information about the charity and where they were based. I wasn’t very familiar with the Tyldesley area so looked it up on the map and realised it wasn’t really that far from where I lived.
I took myself off to the kennels and spoke to Siobhan who suggested I go along at 1.30 pm any day when the dogs are walked, just so I could get an idea if volunteering was for me. Well I’m pleased to say that was nearly a year ago now. I soon realised I’d love to get involved in walking these beautiful hounds. As well as walking I now also help at local fundraising events too.
I have met a lot of lovely, like minded people, who all have one goal - that is - all working together for the benefit of these beautiful gentle creatures.
I very much enjoy helping this small very successful charity.
